The Gnomes
by Ramsés Dávila-Luna @ The Writer’s Cavern
From Yosemite to Congaree a meteor rumbled
Impact frazzled the skies and broke terra firma
Pain reached the hollow and little gnomes gathered
With hammers in hand they broke ground to take a gander
It was the humans and their buildings caught up in a blunder
A big talk with Gob set all the affairs
The littles would rebuild in secret night flairs
First assignment was the hospitals and the schools followed after
Roadways to churches and carved rivers mitigated more disaster
For the flesh in the morning gave all the credit to everlasting
The above used what the night gave it and built more to match answers
Anger swept through the dark at the uncredited rebuff
Some gnomes felt it was time for an introduction to start
To calm echoes of barney Gob set up a test
Sent a wise gnome on a mission to ascend in the day
Little tiptoes crept up on a tiny house window
Inside a small girl prayed to a portrait she kneeled to and looked after
She cried to see them again and hit floor to find real matter
‘Twas perfectly clear why gnomes had to steer clear
On return the below listened to a message that quelled
“We could never rebuild what they are really after”
