Mérida

by Ramsés Dávila-Luna @ The Writer’s Cavern

How the forest slithers through the rustic stones

Pastels for homes with cables as a gift bow

In the night, the fireflies waltz their galaxies to and fro

The jaguar’s eyes kept what I didn’t know

To the vales of coffee cups at La Habana by day

Markets and footsteps hug humidity like clay

Saurians of Kinich Ahau to the washing machines of Ma'alob áak'ab

Shuttles through vines connect the piazza exchange

White tiger in the gardens for the next cage

In chaya hides

The jaguar’s eyes

A big toast to chauffeurs who prize their lane

Cinderella boxes of villages that don’t want to play

Makulís in palaces that carve trumpet ears

Beware of machetes and jungle gold

Trap the limestone in a snow globe

The black jaguar will roam

Its eyes tell those who need to know
