Clock Tower

Clock Tower

by Ramsés Dávila-Luna @ The Writer’s Cavern

Two twenty-two as Mary marveled at view

Scaled to highest point in the city reached only by a few

Timepiece struck seconds and minutes lessened

As dove coos amplified senses

Clutching feelings that floor

Looks to city as cape

Wrecked dreams and lost love that were no more

In crescent moon was reflection to her ghoul

With two soles near ledge heart implored

Span somewhere else

So minute hand sent recompense and gave thoughts recess

When a mouser meowed in dangerous heights

Follow melody to the perfect nest

Mother huddled with its children

True Son looked at Mary rather smitten

Why escape in foul play when

One extra star in the sky is always worth exploring

Tuck sweater into pants as an ark for the small

Kangaroo pouch scoops life

Climb back down from Heaven with joey

Orbits of plight give sight to pluck

Makeshift knit womb that kicks in fright but holds on tight

As human spirit sheds new light

To reach leveled ground and raise inner animals

At clock tower Mary was reminded

Pain in the little while

Teaches you to stick around
